OrthoPTic Rehab Clinic of Metairie
Robby Porche, PT & Mike Murhpy, PT
Injuries happen. Whether it’s from athletics, an accident, or the simple wear and tear that occurs with age, injuries are an unfortunate part of life. Without proper rehabilitation, injuries can affect even the most simple daily tasks. But there’s no reason to let them keep you from living the active lifestyle you want to live. At OrthoPTic Rehab Clinic of Metairie, a highly trained, caring team of expert therapists will make sure that you achieve your goals in both a timely and enjoyable manner.
OrthoPTic Rehab Clinic of Metairie is located at 3939 Houma Blvd #17 in Doctor’s Row. Co-owners and physical therapists Robbie Porche and Mike Murphy have formed a partnership to provide residents of the Greater New Orleans Area with personalized care and cutting-edge technology. Together, the two men combine for 48 years of experience in their field. Their expertise is complemented by their LPTAs, Eric Waguespack and Brad Walchek. “We take pride in presenting an enjoyable family environment, and we also provide state-of-the-art equipment and technology to ensure the best results,” Porche said. “We feel that we are the best. Patients deserve the best treatment, which includes the most advanced technology. They also deserve to be treated with personal attention and care.”
It’s not just lip service to call it a family environment, either. For Porche, the work runs in the family. His father, Bubba Porche, began his own private practice in the 1970s and Porche has followed in his father’s footsteps at OrthoPTic Rehab. Helping people was a labor of love for Bubba Porche, and Robbie carries the same passion with him to work on a daily basis.
Porche’s enthusiasm and dedication is shared by everyone at OrthoPTic Rehab. It’s all about making people feel better. “I enjoy the interaction with the patients,” Murphy said. “and I love getting to know people and helping them through their problems, big or small.”
AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill
Developed by NASA and used by top athletes around the world, the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill offers a new standard of care in rehabilitation and training, giving patients an opportunity to exercise without pain when recovering from an injury or surgery. The treadmill has a unique unweighting technology that reduces the impact of walking or running, allowing you to run or walk at between 20 and 100% of your body weight. By reducing your body weight, the impact on your joints and muscles during exercise is decreased, creating a pain-free experience. Best of all, it’s fun and easy to use. “You can run or walk as if you were on the moon,” Porche said. “It will definitely spare your joints from unnecessary stress.”
The AlterG, which is covered by insurance, is great for runners or athletes of any kind who need to continue training through nagging injuries, and it’s also ideal for older patients who otherwise wouldn’t be able to walk safely on their own. It also works for any person who is recovering from surgery after a serious injury. The weight-bearing load can be adjusted according to a patient’s tolerance, allowing the therapists to precisely progress the patient through the partial weight-bearing stages of his or her rehabilitation.
“In the 33 years I’ve been practicing, the AlterG is the most exciting piece of equipment I’ve ever had,” Murphy said. “People who could barely walk at all can now walk an hour at a time, and painfree. Their excitement is shared by me.”
Travis Hackney, 37
"As a high volume race participant, I tend to be more injury prone than the normal person. Using the AlterG has helped me reduce the wear and tear on my muscles
and joints. I was even able to train through severe posterior tibial tendinitis by using the AlterG during my preparation for Ironman Florida."
Alane Haik, 37
"I have arthritis in my back and right hip. By using the AlterG, I'm able to exercise without pain and raise my heart rate to a level otherwise unattainable. I can run
without pain now, something I haven't done in over 20 years. So far I have lost 21 pounds and have gotten off my blood pressure medication."
Rosemary Orphys, 86
"I'm looking for the Fountain of Youth, and I believe I've found it in the AlterG. I can walk a mile now. There are no cracks in the sidewalk. There is no pain. I can watch TV in the process. The staff is very kind and they make me feel at home."
The TRAZER is a fun and innovative rehabilitation tool. It’s a virtual reality “game” that allows patients to develop strength, coordination, and mobility. Users’ reaction time, acceleration, speed, power and balance drive on-screen activities, creating a unique and entertaining fitness experience designed to challenge the user at various levels.
The TRAZER is very helpful in training individuals to weight shift and weight bear following various types of surgeries. Patients also find it helpful in its simulation of sporting activities, replicating movement patterns and developing the quickness and coordination that they will need to return to a high level of performance. It can also help older patients who are more prone to losing their balance and falling.
Because it is structured as a game, it keeps patients’ attention longer than standard rehabilitation exercises. By keeping it fun, it gives patients added enthusiasm and dedication when tackling their rehab program. And the bottom line is - it gets results, too.
The Care You Deserve
Located in the heart of Metairie, OrthoPTic Rehab Clinic of Metairie is a growing practice with a convenient location for residents throughout the Greater New Orleans Area. Both Porche and Murphy are committed to providing the best care available to local residents. Because of this commitment, they frequently get patients through referrals from other clients and serve as the go-to physical therapists when local physicians are looking for someone to send their family members to.
In addition, Porche and Murphy work closely with local high schools. Porche is a preferred physical therapist for Jesuit High School and Crescent City High School, and Murphy is the physical therapist for St. Charles Catholic High School. Both men have been ingrained for years in the local athletic community.
But regardless of whether the patient is an amateur athlete or an elderly woman suffering from severe arthritis, the team at OrthoPTic Rehab is 100% committed to combining personalized care with cutting-edge technology. At OrthoPTic Rehab Clinic of Metairie, you’ll be treated like a human being, not a number. “From the moment you step through the doors of our clinic, you will see what separates us from the rest,” Porche said.
