Wellness Center of Thibodaux Regional

Brandi LeCompte

Thibodaux Regional Medical Center opened the doors on their brand new state-of-the-art Wellness Center on November 1, 2016. The Center is the first of its kind in Louisiana.

Centers of Excellence located in the Wellness Center:

  • Fitness Center
  • Wellness Education Center
  • Sports Medicine & Sports Performance Centers
  • Aquatics Center
  • Imaging Center
  • Pain Center
  • Rehabilitation Center
  • Neurosciences Center
  • Physician Specialty Clinics including Orthopaedics, Endocrinology and Rheumatology

The opening was a dream come true for CEO, Greg Stock, who has been working to bring this extraordinary center to the community for many years. “We can help people establish goals and a plan. The Center has so many ways to support a person and there’s been a great response from the community,” says Stock.

“The Wellness Center is all encompassing, the staff is trained to work as a team and recognize patients’ needs, and refer them to other departments as needed,” says Chrisy Myhand, Director of Wellness Services. The Center bridges the gap for the patient, making it easier to reach out and seek help for their health issues. “If a diabetic patient is receiving services from the Education Center, they may also benefit from the fitness center. We may have a patient who is post orthopedic surgery and they are here for physical therapy, their doctor can order imaging and they can get it all done here. It’s a one stop shop and very easy for the doctors to monitor the patient’s progress in each of the Centers,” explains Myhand.

State-of-the-Art Fitness Facility

The Fitness Center staff is degreed and certified in personal training from a nationally accredited organization. The Fitness Specialists assist members in completing their health assessment, which is the first step when signing up as a member. They will discuss your fitness goals and develop a personalized program for you. Personal trainers are available to those who would like more support during their workouts.

The “smart” equipment allows you to track your workouts through an app called My Wellness. “It helps members keep track of their programs at the Center,” says Jamie Semien, Fitness Manager. “There is no other facility in Louisiana that is using this state-of-the-art technology.” The app will even show you a video on how to use a machine and saves all the information from your session. “We teach our members how to use the app and have had a great response to it. Even members that may not have a smart phone are interested in getting one so they can track their progress.”

A jogging/walking track is located on the 2nd floor and provides you with an open view of the center.

There is a Mind Body Studio where group yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates classes are held. “It’s for the mind, body and soul and spiritual healing,” says Semien.  The Group Exercise Studio offers many different classes such as Body Pump, P90X and Zumba. You can also attend cycling classes and water aerobics.

The gymnasium’s basketball court can be used as a half court or four corners, and it also functions as a volleyball court. “Members meet up for a game and it’s also being utilized by individuals. There is no need to reserve ahead of time, with four goals, it’s easy to share,” Semien says.

The Aquatics Center has three specialized pools, all designed to meet virtually any medical or athletic need.

  • 8 Lane, 25 yard lap pool with a state-of-the-art timing system
  • Group exercise pool for classes and free swim, equipped with bench seat and jets for therapeutic purposes
  • HydroWorx pool - one of the only pools of its kind in the Southeast Region. Allows a physical therapist to raise the pool floor so that it is flush with the actual floor, making it possible to walk or wheel a patient out and then the floor can be lowered to the desired depth. The floor is equipped with a built-in treadmill and jets. There are cameras underwater that allow the physician to monitor the patient’s movements.

“The HydroWorx pool allows for a quicker recovery time because physical therapy is able to begin sooner,” explains Myhand.

The Fitness Center has three massage therapists on staff. For an additional fee, members can have access to the therapists and non-members are able to book appointments as well. “Massage has several benefits and can be used for many things. Our therapists specialize in all forms of massage. So whether you suffer from arthritis, or you’re an athlete or just want to keep your blood flowing properly, massage can benefit you,” says Semien.

Keith Young, a member who has been avidly working out for 10 years says that he’s never been so excited about visiting the gym. “I am in love with the facility. The Center offers such a wide variety of activities, which has allowed me to make significant improvements in my conditioning and health in only six weeks. It’s simply the best!”

Rebecca Savoie, also a member, says she never thought joining a fitness center could be so joyous. She considers her time spent at the Center to be not only a physical experience but also a “social renewal”. “I’m not a number here, we are family,” she says.

“This is a facility where you can get inspired, get educated, get motivated and have fun!” says Semien.

Café

There is also a  Café  located in the Wellness Center. Their options include healthy carbs, also offerings with low carbs and healthy sugars as well as a smoothie bar “The café has very high quality food and members and staff are enjoying it,” says Myhand.

“At the Wellness Center, we strive to go above and beyond. We want it to be the absolute best experience,” says Myhand.
